| Description | Rabbit polyclonal to AGO2.Protein argonaute-2 (AGO2) is also known as Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2C 2 (EIF2C2),which is required for RNA-mediated gene silencing NAi) by the RNA-induced silencing complexISC). The 'minimal RISC' appears to include EIF2C2/AGO2 bound to a short guide RNA such as amicroRNA (miRNA) or short interfering RNA (siRNA). These guide RNAs direct RISC tocomplementary mRNAs that are targets for RISC-mediated gene silencing. Binding of RISC to aperfectly complementary mRNA generally results in silencing due to endonucleolytic cleavage of themRNA specifically by EIF2C2/AGO2. The inhibition of translational initiation leads to the accumulationof the affected mRNA in cytoplasmic processing bodies (P-bodies), where mRNA degradation maysubsequently occur. |
