| Description | Rabbit polyclonal to ABCA1.ATP-binding cassette, sub-family A, member 1 (ABCA1) is a membrane associated protein thatbelongs to the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette transporters. Members of the ABC sub-family Acomprise the only major ABC subfamily found exclusively in multicellular eukaryotes. ABCA1 plays apivotal role in influencing intracellular cholesterol transport. It binds to cholesterol and functions as anefflux pump in the cellular lipid removal pathway. Mutations in this gene have been implicated withTangiers disease and familial high-density lipoprotein deficiency. |
