| Description | Mouse monoclonal to Ricin, RCA60. Recognizes the A chain of RCA60. Also recognizes RCA120. Ricin is a cytotoxic lectin1 possessing antitumoractivity against various sarcomas in rat and mouse2. It is composed of an A and a B polypeptide chainMr approx. 30000 each joined by a disulphide bond. The B chain has two sites that both bind galactosidesand galactosaminides 3,4, and binds to the membrane of sensitive mammalian cells. Once the ricin hasentered the cell, the A chain specifically inhibits protein synthesis by decreasing the affinity of the 60 Sribosomal subunit for the elongation factors5. |
