Hunter是MIT(麻绳理工大学)的科学家,他发明颜色对立学说L,a,b表色体系理论,是现代色度学理论的奠基人（已经去世）。1950年为保洁公司(P&G)制造了世界第一台三刺激值色差仪(测量X、Y、Z）。后注册成立了HunterLab颜色管理公司，专门从事颜色理论的研究和各种测色仪器的生产。
