Ion Science Ltd is an international manufacturer of technologically advanced gas sensing, leak detection and corrosion monitoring equipment for a wide range of industries and applications. We have offices in the UK, USA, Germany and Singapore and a global network of Distributors in most countries around the worldOur instruments are designed for a wide range of industries and applications.
Our photoionisation detection (PID) technology is key to a number of first-class products with a detection range of ppb to 10,000 ppm for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other toxic gases.
1989: The ‘Saga’ flow meters were launched, first principles using bubbles and light sensors making them very reliable and uneffecting the measurement taking.
1990: The first ‘GasCheck B3 and B4’ instruments were launched, a hand held leak detector very sensitive to helium and many other gases.
1991: The ‘GasCheck B4IS’, the world's first intrinsically safe leak detector was granted BASEEFA, CENELEC approval. Ion Science are accredited with the quality standard ISO9002, as a manufacturer. The System division was selected as the main supplier for all radiator leak test machines for Ford (UK) Motor Company.
1993: Ion Science Messtecknik (ISM) was formed in Dusseldorf, Germany with Managing Director Clemens Verley. The company specialises in the detection of SF6, an unusual gas used extensively in electrical switch-gear, and is also heavily involved in leak testing.
1995: Dr Frank Dean joined as Research Manager. Frank, an electrochemist and specialist in gas sensor technology, has developed much of the innovative technology the company uses to date.
1999: Duncan Johns joined the company as General Manager, with a wealth of experience from the gas detection industry at Zellweger Analytics, Neotronics PLC and Solomat Ltd. Duncan joined the Board as Managing Director in April 1999. Ion Science Messtechnik launches a new instrument the ‘Gas Check P1 SF6’, using a novel sensor technique which does not require an ECD detector. Ion Science launches a new instrument platform; with the first product a replacement to the ‘GasCheck B series’ a new sophisticated range ‘GasCheck 3000 - 5000’.
2000: Two new products were launched, the ‘PhoCheck 5000EX’; a PID instrument which detects volatile organic compounds down to ppb levels and ‘Hydrosteel’; the world’s first truly portable hydrogen permeation steel analyser, with a new research division, Ion Plus, to exploit the technology in full.
2001: Saw the extension to the PhoCheck range with two new models the 2000 and 3000EX. A new calibration device CalCheck was launched with multiple gas calibration and low running cost, an essential design concept. The Ion Plus Division launched a new high temperature collector and won the company a SMART award to explore the potential of a development for detecting corrosion under insulation.
2002: Ion Science America’s was formed with Geoff Hewitt, a former Vice President of HNU, also a PID company. Applied for worldwide patent on PID which gives low-level stability in VOC/RH Atmospheres.
2003: Launched PhoCheck 1000 a simple VOC detector, for entry into the PID market. Ion Science is awarded another SMART award for the development of a permanent Hydrosteel monitoring system, following the success of the portable device.
ISO 9001:2000 certification is achieved.
2004: FirstCheck 6000 is launched, which is the very first multigas to combine complete VOC and toxic gas detection from ppb up to 10,000 ppm with traditional multigas sensors for O2, H2S, CO and LEL detection. Hydrosteel 7000 is launched, this product is a fixed, totally non-intrusive device for the continuous monitoring of hydrogen flux at highly critical sites within petrochemical and gas production and petrochemical refining operations.
2005: SF6 LeakCheck P1:p is launched with it’s high sensitivity and response of less than 1 second to even the smallest of leaks (1.0 E-7 mL/s). PhoCheck+ range is re-launched with many new and improved features. FirstCheck 4000 is launched with a PID range from 0.1ppm to 10,000 ppm plus O2, H2S, CO and LEL detection. TVOC is launched for fixed continuous monitoring of total VOC’s and is ideal for use in manufacturing and process industries where VOC’s are typically present.
2006: Ion Science is awarded a patent for our Fence Electrode technology featured in PhoCheck, FirstCheck and TVOC instruments.
2007: FirstCheck+ replaces the FirstCheck 4000 and 6000 instruments. The FirstCheck+ multigas PID is now a fully upgradeable range of advanced instruments (1000 - 5000) with new, improved features.
