StagePresser -Real-time observation of pressure loading under microscope

A single-well embodiment of the compression apparatus designed to allow the user to detect signaling responses to compression.

The StagePresser® is designed to compress a single tissue sample or cells in 3D culture while viewing the cellular activity under a microscope. 
The FX-5000C™ Compression System controls the compression frequency, amplitude, waveform, and cycles.

StagePresser® Membranes


Flexible growth surface for use with the StagePresser® device.  
·Compatible with the flexercell® Compression System.
·Each membrane contains an acrylic piston which is compressed against a stationary platen on the StagePresser® device to deform 3-D tissue samples or cell-seeded constructs.

· Ring foam holders keep samples confined to central region of each membrane.
·Each membrane comes individually packaged in a sterile cell culture dish.


Flexible growth surfaces that are individually packaged membranes for the StagePresser® dynamic culture device.

  • Compression application consistent with the BioPress® culture plates
  • Contains an acrylic piston which is compressed against a stationary platen to deform 3D tissue samples or cell-seeded constructs

Apply compression to tissue samples or 3-D cell-seeded constructs


flexercell鈥檚® Compression System regulates posve air pressure to compress tissue samples or 3D cell cultures in vitro. The FX-5000C Compression System compresses samples between a piston and stationary platen using our BioPress® culture plates. It can load up to 14 lbs. of applied force. Using the FX-5000C Compression System, researchers can observe biochemical changes and cell signaling in vitro that mimics in vivo condons.

  • Computer-regulated bioreactor that applies cyclic or static compression to 3-D cell-seeded constructs in vitro.

  • Uses posve air pressure to yield up to 14 lbs of applied force (minimum force resolution of 0.1 lbf).

  • Simulate in vivo tissue strains and frequencies in cells from muscle, lung, heart, blood vessels, skin, tendon,ligament, cartilage, and bone.

  • Contains state-of-the-art digital valve to automatically regulate and maintain pressure for a specified compression regimen.

  • Piston and stationary platen compress samples in a BioPress culture plate or StagePresser microscope device.

  • Multiple frequency, amplitude and waveform changes can be programmed in one regimen (Fig. 4).
